Alumni, family and friends gathered at the Lakewood Facility on Lake Whatcom to celebrate another year of Men's Crew at Western. Festivities began at noon with alumni recruiting for the Alumni vs Varsity 1k (we're not sure who insisted on the shortened course). You can read more about the race in the news, but suffice it to say that when the dust settled, the alumni had the biggest smiles (once they caught their breath). Cameron Moorehead spoke on behalf of the Alumni, describing the efforts to build a more active group - efforts that are starting to grow considering the turnout at Head of the Lake and Class Day. Working with the Western Foundation, they have established an endowment fund to build long term financial support for the team. He would be happy to hear from you at the address below. Coach Marty thanked all participants, introduced the rest of the coaching staff - Coaches Josh and Andy. He briefly spoke about the season and thanked all for the ongoing support for the team. He also spoke about the naming of the shells in honor of long time coach Fil Leanderson and of the 99 four that medaled at IRA's. All in all it was an enjoyable day, and the team looks forward to seeing everyone back for class day 2008. Viking Alumni ContactCameron Moorehead is the chief Viking Mens Crew alumni / booster. You can reach him by email at cameron.moorehead@wwucrew.org. |
